Reduce Your Food and Entertainment Costs

  • Check the grocery store flyers and try to plan your meals for the week based on the sales.
  • Create a shopping list and only make one trip to the grocery store. The more trips you make, the more money you are apt to spend.
  • Buy in bulk when practical. Be careful about purchasing a large amount of perishable items, you want to eat them before they spoil.
  • Use manufacturers’ coupons and take advantage of rebates.
  • On workdays, pack your own lunch rather than buying fast food.
  • Limit the number of times you spend ‘out on the town’.
  • If you enjoy entertaining at home, make your dinner parties potluck affairs where everyone brings something for the meal and you can share the costs.
  • Check with your cable/satellite provider to make sure you have the most cost-effective plan to suit your needs.
  • Borrow books, DVDs, and music from the library rather than buying them, or exchange them items with friends.
